About us

Our Origin Story

Jen, the founder of Weekly Day Journals, spent decades working in nonprofits to improve everyday life for people, particularly those living in generational poverty.

After a beloved nonprofit she helped create closed in 2022 (post-COVID), Jen was determined to continue her mission of helping others, but in a more effective way.

In September 2024, as she worked on service guides to train community leaders, a series of personal reflections and thoughts came tumbling together in her mind in a powerful “big bang” moment. These thoughts included:

  • A pile of sweet, heartfelt drawings from her beloved young nieces, which she cherished but didn’t have a great way to keep.
  • The deep emotional connection she felt to handwritten letters from her own late mother (who died when Jen was 10).
  • The approaching holiday season, and the challenge of finding meaningful gifts for loved ones on a tight budget.
  • Her experience as a cancer survivor, which inspired her to live with a deeper appreciation for each day.
  • An ongoing desire to spend her life work to improve the everyday lives of as many people as possible.
  • Personal experiences of the benefits of writing and art to boost mental well-being during difficult times.
  • The knowledge that what you focus on grows, and you start to see it everywhere.

With these thoughts swirling, Weekly Day Journals was born!

Jen stayed up all night, fueled by excitement, and the next day shared her vision with friends and family. Thanks to the support of Weik-Lee Dhey, over 70 journal designs were available on Amazon and the Weekly Day Journals website in time for the 2024 holiday season. But we launched quietly.

"Life can be dark and disheartening at times, but it’s also amazing, beautiful, and full of surprises. Tomorrow isn’t guaranteed, so let’s make the most of the moments we do have." - Jen

Jen’s dream was simple: create soft, affordable journals that cost less than most adult meals eating out, with quick shipping through Amazon, making them accessible to people of all ages and income levels. Her mission was to improve the everyday life of as many people as possible, with low barriers to entry.

"I dream of a world where everyone documents their beautiful life moments. Cherished moments happen to everyone—not just celebrities. We know their stories because they are documented. Please document your life! It will change the way you see the world, and your loved ones will treasure everything you leave behind when the time comes." -Jen

Creating Weekly Day Journals has been a joy. We’re thrilled to share a gift that’s both meaningful and scientifically backed for those who choose to use them.
